Over the summer, there are several campaign fundraiser events planned including a family bowling day Friday, June 29th at Bay Lanes in Bay City and a family fun day with another local Bay City charity. Details are soon to come for these two events and many more! The events will be posted in the “Contribute” section of this web site and on my Facebook page. Michigan primary just around the corner!

August 3rd is when Michigan primaries are held across the state. No matter whether you’re voting Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Constitutional, Green, or any other party research your candidate. Please be sure to check the candidates voting record (if they have one), their endorsements, their views, and most importantly try to meet them in person. Read their body language when you ask them questions. Look for real answers rather than your typical canned answers on tough issues and issues that matter to you.

There are those who I know I will vote for, those who I won’t vote for, and there are also those that I cannot vote for because unfortunately they are out of my District. One such candidate is Justin Amash. He is incredibly conservative, has a strong stance in favor of free markets, and opposes increasing the size and power of government with every vote he casts. Perhaps one of my favorite aspects of the way Justin Amash conducts himself in office as a State Representative is how he explains each vote and how he votes, in real time, on Facebook. To see this incredible form of transparency in action, be sure to visit (and “Like”) his page over on Facebook.

The Tea Party

In response to a post on a friend’s wall on Facebook, I had to reply to the statements made by someone who obviously thought the Tea Party movement was invalid. Here is the original post…

Very much agreed both parties suck. The far right as well as the far left with their my way is the only and your way is stupid is completely paralyzing our government. Further polarization only adds fuel to the fire of under educated people forming an opinion from potlitically motivated media (Tea Baggers especially). People need to sit down, shut up, and see what they can do to help rather than point out what someone else is not doing to make things better.

I couldn’t disagree more. Below is my response…

It appears you're making a generalization or stereotype about people in the Tea Party movement. So I'm assuming that you've actually been to a Tea Party event? While you were there, you must not have talked to anyone. At all. Either that or you're just echoing sound bytes from liberal news sources or Obama supporters. Or perhaps since you've just earned your Bachelors, you are having delusions of grandeur while generalizing others as “under educated”.

People attending Tea Party events are not only, for the most part, quite educated, they also have a LOT of solutions for current problems. From income tax system ideas, to assisting in drafting legislation to repeal unconstitutional laws, to running for office themselves to change back the "change" given to us by Obama, Bush, etc. Quite a few current and past politicians are also attending and supporting Tea Party events across the nation. “Sitting down and shutting up” solves nothing contrary to popular belief, but if that works for you…then sit down and shut up.

I do agree with you that both parties "suck" and so have the past few presidents – Obama, Bush, Clinton, and Bush Sr. People put too much stock in to the “D” and “R” next to someone’s name and vote for them solely based on that letter. However, they don’t stop to think that both parties have lost their way. To call Bush a “Republican” is like calling Obama a free-market capitalist. They just don’t fit the definition based on their actions. Our civil liberties have been slowly eroding while people are “sitting down and shutting up” and Obama has done nothing to stop it (despite campaign promises to the contrary). He has had a chance to make things right, but has ignored that chance and has actually figured out ways to make things much, much worse.

The two biggest problems right now are the spending and unconstitutional legislation. It has to stop. Do you honestly believe Obama and the majority of current Representatives and Senators will do either?
