First off, I would like to thank the 12,428 Liberty-minded voters in the 96th district who took the time to go to the polls and cast a vote for smaller government, more freedom, and demand fiscal responsibility from our elected officials. Unfortunately, this time around we didn’t obtain enough votes to win the election and our district isn’t quite ready for a Liberty candidate. However, like I always say – you will always get exactly the type of government you vote for. With the re-election of Barack Obama, and other big government statists, we can expect more of the same – a larger, more powerful government, unsustainable debt, reduction of personal Liberties, and our Constitutional rights being slowly usurped.

As I have said to many people on the campaign trail – I am a Ron Paul Republican and will continue to be a Ron Paul Republican. His message of Liberty has spread like wildfire throughout the country this election period, which has caused people like me to do what I never thought I would do – run for office to make a difference. Much like Ron Paul, I may not have won this election, but the people I have reached and the conversations I have had throughout the campaign have been priceless. The election has been lost, but the message of Liberty remains strong and I’m not giving up this easily. This is my first run for a public office, but I certainly can’t see it being my last.

The revolution is alive and well…

I keep seeing Michigan politicians patting each other on the back about the personal income tax going from 4.35% to 4.25% to 3.9. Then eliminated the “Business Tax” only to turn around and create a “Corporate Tax”. Then they try to explain how the 6% sales tax will sustain these “huge” decreases in revenue. None of these high taxes are truly necessary – just look at Wyoming and South Dakota.

A little information about Wyoming and their taxes:

• Wyoming sales tax rate is currently 4.0% with prescription drugs and groceries exempt from sales tax.
• Wyoming has no personal income tax.
• Wyoming has no corporate income tax.

A little information about South Dakota and their taxes:

• South Dakota sales tax rate is 4.0%.
• South Dakota has no corporate income tax.
• South Dakota has no personal income tax.
• South Dakota has no personal property tax.
• South Dakota has no business inventory tax.
• South Dakota has no inheritance tax.

Both of those states enjoy some of the lowest unemployment rates in the country because people and businesses get to keep more of their money. When people and businesses get to keep more of their own money, rather than let government take it from them and squander it, prosperity occurs. Businesses and people are more free to invest and use their money wisely.

Michigan politicians could learn something from this simple economics lesson.

Chad Dewey Pledges to Block Michigan Obamacare Exchange

After the Supreme Court’s ruling stating that Obamacare is Constitutionally allowable, Chad Dewey pledges to block the Obamacare Exchange in Michigan.

“The Obamacare exchange passed the Michigan Senate in October, 2011 under SB 693. A quick look at the voting records at Michiganvotes.org shows 100% of Democrats are for it, 50% of Republicans are for it, and 100% of voters are against it.” says Dewey. “These typical politicians are not listening to what their constituents are clearly against and are not representing the voice of the people who voted them in.”

Dewey explains, “SB 693 passed the Senate, but fortunately it stalled in the House. However, we need to vote in people who are against this exchange that allows Obamacare to be easily implemented in Michigan. Passing this piece of legislation would put the burden of the cost of the exchange on Michigan taxpayers and then handing the exchange over to the federal government.” The CATO Institute report on Obamacare Exchanges for individual states supports Dewey’s claim that without Obamacare Exchanges created at the state level, it puts the cost of the exchanges on the Federal government, which would be unable to support the financial burden.

Chad Dewey Signs Americans for Tax Reform “Taxpayer Protection Pledge”

BAY CITY, Michigan – Chad Dewey announced this week that he signed the ATR pledge to “oppose and vote against any and all efforts to increase taxes”.

“In addition to not increasing taxes, I will also work to lower and eliminate taxes. This includes reducing the personal income tax to zero and eliminating the Michigan corporate income tax.” says Dewey. “The people of Michigan earn their paychecks and should keep their hard earned money rather than have it wasted by their government due to pressure from special interests.”

Dewey explains, “Michigan is a very heavily taxed state and could learn quite a bit from South Dakota and Wyoming; two states that enjoy some of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation and they don’t have a personal income tax or business tax. When you get the burden of the government off the shoulders of people and business, the free market will flourish and it is then you will see prosperity.”

Chad Dewey, the Republican candidate for Michigan’s 96th House district, has also pledged to vote only within the guidelines of the U.S. and Michigan Constitutions, vote in favor of preserving personal Liberties, and vote in favor of free market principles.

Chad Dewey upset with failure of Zero Income Tax Amendment

BAY CITY, Michigan – Chad Dewey announced today that he is not happy with the failure of an amendment that would have brought Michigan’s income tax to zero.

“The argument I keep hearing is ‘What will we replace the income tax with?’” says Mr. Dewey, “The answer is easy. Nothing.”

HB 5699 is set in place to drop the income tax from 4.35 percent to 4.25 percent within the next year, while HB 5729 drops the income tax down to 3.9 percent over the next six years.

“The idea that this zero income tax amendment failed tells me that we still have a problem in Lansing and that rather than cut taxes and allow people to spend their own money, they’re not willing to curb the real problem – Lansing spending. Other states such as Wyoming and South Dakota have no income tax or business tax and they enjoy some of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation.”

HB 5699 has passed the House and Senate, while HB 5729 has passed the House and is expected to pass through the Senate.

Public schools have long had a stranglehold on tax dollars and the children they have in their district. Don’t like your school? Well, you don’t have many options with public schools. You’re pretty much stuck with the school district your home is in whether you like the school or not. Or are you?

Sadly, I know of a few public schools that focus more on how much money they can get for having a student in their system than what’s best for the students themselves. They’ll push students to be in “special programs”, whether necessary or not, so that they may gain more federal funding for each student in said “special program”. They’ll even go so far as to push you into taking your child to a Doctor to have them evaluated for ADHD, ADD, and several other disorders to justify keeping them in these “special programs”. And when schools like this discover you want to move your student to another school or question their motives? They will do all they can to try to put on the brakes.

On the bright side, parents can choose a charter public school or even a private school…if they can afford it. Unfortunately, public schools have somewhat of a monopoly on tax dollars – the tax dollars set aside to pay for each child to go to public schools don’t follow kids when they move to a private school. Sadly, private schools usually spend less per child and offer a better educational experience than public schools. Don’t get me wrong, I know of several very good local public schools like Bay City Western who not only have student’s best interests in mind, but they’ll do everything they can to assure students are successful for life during and after high school. However, wouldn’t it be nice to have a choice if your local public school wasn’t like Bay City Western?

“What really frightens the conventional public school establishment, however, is not the amount politicians decide to spend on schools, but losing its monopoly on students thanks to other actions the Legislature recently took, namely lifting the cap on the number of charter public schools.” – Michael Van Beek, Michigan Capitol Confidential

Are charter public schools the answer? Are private schools the answer? Is home schooling the answer? I’m not sure anyone has a cut and dry answer for any of those questions. However, why not allow more schools, which allows for more competition and more choices based on the needs of the parents and children?

For those who have not heard about Michigan Senate Bill 919, it is essentially a very large and unnecessary tax increase on all drivers:

Introduced by Sen. Roger Kahn (R) on January 26, 2012, to increase the state vehicle registration tax by 67 percent. The tax is levied based on the weight of commercial trucks, and on the “list price” of cars. (For example, the annual tax on a car with a $20,000 list price would go from $103 to $172.). The weight-based levy on trucks would increase by 25 percent. This would extract approximately $500 million more from motorists each year. The bill would distribute a greater proportion of the increased road funding to heavily-traveled “commercial corridor” roads rather than less-traveled rural roads. This is part of Gov. Rick Snyder’s road and transit tax proposal.

While big government establishment candidates are fine with continuing the spending, raising taxes in any way is not what’s good for the overall financial well being of the people of Michigan. Here’s a novel idea to create a surplus of cash – how about cutting state government? How about looking at duplicate programs, unnecessary regulations, and tax subsidies that would save the state a considerable amount of money? This bill represents the wrong type of thinking in Lansing and is exactly what I would fight against if elected.

• “No” if it is not permitted by the U.S. Constitution and Michigan Constitution.
• “No” to tax increases.
• “No” to bills that don’t follow free market principles.
